Who can apply for a Birth Certificate?
Birth Certificates may be released to:
- The person whose birth is registered (must be at least 16 years old)
- A person whose name appears as a parent on the registration of the birth (subject must be 18 years old or younger)
- A guardian of the person whose birth is registered (custodial guardians must provide a copy of guardianship papers)
- A person who has written authorization from a person described above
Service Options:
Regular Service
- Choose this option to receive your certificate within the province's regular processing time frame (approximately 4 to 6 weeks).
- Once we have received your completed application, we will process it for you using the standard government procedure.
- In all cases, your birth certificate will be sent by Express Post/Courier to you as soon as the province has completed processing.
Rush Service
- Expedited service is available for an additional fee.
- Certificate processing will be completed within 5 days (with proof of identity).
- In all cases, your birth certificate will be sent by Express Post/Courier to you as soon as the province has completed processing.
- RUSH service: processing times based on proof of urgency.
Additional Information:
- Newborn birth certificates are only available if you are requesting a first birth certificate within the child's first year.
