Citizenship application document requirements
Please ensure that you have the required documents for your Citizenship application according to the most applicable situation for you from the table below:
- All original citizenship certificates
- Any pink transmission copies or RBA
- Two (2) pieces of personal identification such as driver's license, health card
- Other documents (birth or marriage certificate, etc.)
- Birth certificate
- Two (2) pieces of personal identification such as driver's license, health card
- Other documents (marriage certificate, legal name change, etc.)
- Birth certificate listing parents' names issued by responsible gov't authorities in the country you were born
- Proof of Canadian citizenship for your natural father or mother (at time of your birth)
- Your parents' marriage certificate
- Two (2) pieces of personal identification such as driver's license, health card
- Other documents (marriage certificate, legal name change, etc.)
- Birth certificate issued in the country in which you were born
- Two (2) pieces of personal identification such as driver's license, health card
- Women only: details of husband's nationality at the time of your marriage
- Other documents (marriage certificate, legal name change, etc.)
- Birth certificate issued in the country in which you were born
- Proof of admission to Canada as a landed immigrant (i.e. immigration document or British passport used to enter Canada)
- Two (2) pieces of personal identification such as driver's license, health card
- Women only: details of husband's nationality at the time of your marriage
- Other documents (marriage certificate, legal name change, etc.)
- Birth certificate issued in the country in which you were born

- What are the photography requirements for a citizenship certificate?
You must provide two (2) photos taken within the last 12 months. Take the photo specifications included with the application package to the photographer to ensure you get the correct size of photo. Do not wear a head covering while your photo is being taken unless you wear one for religious reasons. When you receive the photos, ensure that the photos are the correct size and that the photographer has identified himself and included the date on the back of each photo.
