Citizenship Cards

The Canadian Citizenship Card is a wallet-size identity document issued by the Government of Canada to Canadian citizens to prove their citizenship status. This document will be required when you apply for your Canadian passport, when you vote in federal or provincial elections, when you apply for certain government jobs, or when you apply for a provincial health card or social insurance card.

If you are residing outside Canada and you do not have a Citizenship Card or Canadian passport to return to Canada, you will need to obtain your Citizenship Card before you can apply for a Canadian passport or use your Citizenship Card within North America to return to Canada before Dec 31, 2006.

To be eligible for a Canadian Citizenship Card, you must be a Canadian citizen. Please let us know if your request for a Citizenship Card is urgent as we will help you with the urgency of your request. In order to be eligible for Canadian Citizenship you must have resided in Canada for a certain period of time. Please click here in order to determine your residence eligibility.

Service Options


Regular Service

Regular service includes the initial consultation, review and submission of the application. Regular processing of Citizenship cards by the Government of Canada takes approximately 5 months.

Expedited Service

Expedited service includes the initial consultation, review and submission of the application and subsequent follow-up with Citizenship and Immigration Canada. Proof of urgency is required. Delivery is made at the sole discretion of Citizenship and Immigration Canada. Processing time could be within 3-4 weeks. "Expedited" refers to the review and courier of documents to CIC within 72 hours (Requires all documents to be in order).

Rush Service

Rush service includes the initial consultation, review and submission of the application and subsequent follow-up with Citizenship and Immigration Canada. Proof of urgency is required. Delivery is made at the sole discretion of Citizenship and Immigration Canada. Processing time could be within 2-3 weeks. "Rush" refers to the review and courier of documents to CIC within 24 hours (Requires all documents to be in order).


Process

  1. Complete and sign all pages of the application form.
  2. Provide two identical citizenship photos taken within the last 12 months. Be sure you have signed the back of both photos. See our Photo requirements page for information about photos.
  3. Include all required supporting documents. For a list of documents to be included with your application, visit our Document Requirements.

Fees

  1. Fees are calculated for each certificate required.
  2. Once your application is submitted, government fees are non-refundable.
