Divorce from outside of Canada

You will have to obtain written Authorization from the Reigistrar General. Certificates Express will help you to obtain this Authorization quickly and efficiently.
In order to obtain this authorization you will need to provide us with several documents that we will submit on your behalf. These documents are listed below and they include a legal opinion letter, written by a certified Ontario lawyer. As part of our service, Certificates Express works in close association with several certified Ontario lawyers, so that we will be able to provide you with all the legal documents that you need.
The following are the documents which you will need in order to be eligible to apply to the Registrar General for an Authorization to Obtain a Marriage License through Certificates Express:
- A completed Marriage Licence Application
- A Statement of Sole Responsibility for each divorce signed by both parties of this marriage.
- An original or court-certified copy of the divorce decree (certified by the proper court officer in the jurisdiction the divorce or annulment was granted) or annulment. If the decree is in a language other English or French, include a translated copy together with an affidavit sworn by a certified translator.
- A legal opinion from an Ontario lawyer, addressed to both applicants to the marriage, giving reasons why the divorce or annulment should be recognized in the province of Ontario.
Once you have the first three documents, please download an application package (which includes blank copies of the first two documents) and forward the completed versions to us via the instructions contained in the enclosed package.
When we have received your completed application, we will have this package reviewed by our lawyer and they will complete the package by adding the required lawyer's opinion letter. Then we will forward the completed application package to the Registrar General in order to obtain your Marriage License.
