Scotland Certificates
For Scotland, Certificates Express can help you obtain a full or abbreviated (short) certificate from the General Register Office of Scotland (GROS). While the long certificate includes more information than a short certificate, such as the name of the parents in a birth certificate, the short and full certificates have the same price. The full certificate is usually required in legal matters.
We will be able to obtain your certificate if you provide full names for person involved as well as exact date and place for this event (exact date of birth, marriage, death).
To verify the date of the certificate event, you can consult various online services, or search the Records in the new Register House in person. One of these online services includes the ScotlandsPeople website.
Scotland certificates are issued within:
- 10 working days for short and full Standard service certificates
- Next working day for short and full Priority service certificates

An additional charge may be required if no index is found within 5 years of the supplied event date, or if searching is requested to be performed by GROS staff. Processing time does not include delivery.
All of the information required for applying for this certificate will be obtained from you in our application package, which you can download after purchasing one of the services above. This information includes:
- Full Name of individual(s) concerned
- Date and place of the event
- Details about parents (if applicable)
